All Sports booster club rewards 15, $1,500 scholarships to 2022 senior student athletes

KINGWOOD - Fifteen Kingwood Park seniors will receive $1,500 scholarships from the Kingwood Park High All Sports Booster club.

The 15 recipients represent some of the best and brightest at Kingwood Park, in the classroom and on the field, diamond, swimming pool, soccer pitch, track, cross country and courts. It includes state champions, state semifinalists and three of the members of the senior class’ Top 10 students.

Kingwood Park valedictorian Kate Tiedtke is one of three members from the girls’ soccer team who were selected for the scholarship. Two-time state champion wrestler Lexi Shannon also received a scholarship.

Girls soccer captains Kathleen Ortiz, the No. 7 student in the Class of 2022, and Kennedy Dolmage were the other girls soccer players to receive a scholarship.

The boys and girls swim teams were represented by Carter Bennett, McCormick (Mick) Johnson and Jayme Wilkey. Boys soccer captain Tony Sterner, who also kicked for the football team, and Trey Ricker were recipients from the boys soccer team.

Class of 2022 No. 10 graduate Reese Cavallo, who participated in cross country, track and field and tennis, was one of three track athletes selected.

The other track athletes selected were Megan Fischer, who also cheered, Charlee Jordan, who also starred in volleyball, and Johnson, who also swam. Boys basketball players Kyle Connelly and Talon Balcom and baseball player William Stonestreet were also selected.

“The All Sports Booster club is honored to reward these fine young athletes who left their mark at Kingwood Park,” booster club president Holly Overmyer said. “Not only did they excel in the athletic arena but more importantly were leaders in the classroom and their student organizations.”

Melissa Gillean, the booster club's scholarship chair, spent countless hours handling the process and making sure K Park seniors and their parents knew about the scholarships. Then the Humble ISD Foundation selected the winners.

All the money raised by the All Sports Booster Club goes directly back to our athletes. The booster club also purchases equipment and other special requests for our teams throughout the year. A new state-of-the-art scorers' table was one of the major purchases donated by the booster club this year.
